Mohanlal could be teaming up with Mayaanadhi and Virus director Aashiq Abu for the first time ever, if reports are to be believed. The actor has also reportedly greenlit a project by Ajagajantharam director Tinu Pappachan.
As per rumours, both the films are to be produced by Antony Perumbavoor’s Aashirvad Cinemas and Mohanlal will begin work on these this year itself. The actor’s past few films have all been with veteran filmmakers or directors that he had worked with before. In the past two years, he had worked with Jeethu Joseph in Drishyam 2 and 12th Man, Shaji Kailas in Alone, Prithviraj Sukumaran in Bro Daddy, Vysakh in Monster, Priyadarshan for Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham and B Unnikrishnan for Marakkar.
This would mean that the projects with Aashiq Abu and Tinu Pappachan would mark the first time he is collaborating with new-gen filmmakers. The superstar is currently busy with his directorial debut Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure, which is a 3D children’s fantasy film that is also produced by Aashirvad Cinemas.
While reports suggest that the movies could go on floors by the end of the year, both Aashiq and Tinu have other projects to complete first. Aashiq in a recent interview with OTTplay had told us that he will begin filming Neelavelicham , a period horror drama based on Vaikom Muhammed Basheer’s eponymous short story by April mid. The movie will have Tovino Thomas, Asif Ali, Rima Leena Rajan and Soubin Shahir in the lead. The filmmaker is also set for the release of Naaradhan, which will hit theatres on March 3.
Meanwhile, Tinu is gearing up for his movie with Jayasurya . The film is set to go on floors in March and will be shot on a big canvas with most of its locations being abroad in the UAE and Iran.
On his film with Mohanlal, the Ajagajantharam director had earlier told us, “I had narrated a story to Lal sir and that too some time ago. While there have been discussions, there is still no clarity on whether the project will happen or not.”
