Mohanlal has arguably been the most bankable Malayalam star in OTTs with the digital rights of his movies Lucifer and Drishyam 2 fetching record prices for the makers and also being raging successes for the streamers. According to reports, the actor’s next two movies have also signed a record OTT deal with Amazon Prime Video.

A report from a Malayalam entertainment portal, Nana Online, say that producer Antony Perumbavoor’s Aashirvaad Cinemas, who is backing Mohanlal’s next films Bro Daddy and Jeethu Joseph directorial, has signed a deal worth Rs 65Cr to release the movies on Amazon Prime Video, which had also released Lucifer and Drishyam 2.

Amazon Prime Video and the producer were also in negotiations for the digital rights of Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham after its theatrical release, which is currently set for August 12.

Mohanlal, meanwhile, is expected to join the team of Prithviraj’s Bro Daddy, which also has the latter in a full-length role along with Kalyani Priyadarshan, Meena, Kaniha, Soubin Shahir and Murali Gopy. He will then reportedly team up with Drishyam director Jeethu for his film. Considering Aashirvaad Cinemas is producing this film, it’s likely to be a new project and not Ram, which will require the team to shoot in Europe.

The superstar’s own directorial Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure has been delayed due to the pandemic. Shoot for the 3D children’s fantasy movie had begun in May but the makers were forced to halt it a week later due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in Kerala. Mohanlal also has completed the shoot of B Unnikrishnan’s big budget family entertainer, Aaraattu, which will also be a theatrical release.
