Mohanlal says L2 Empuraan has a ‘brilliant’ script; drops major updates on release date and shooting schedules

Mohanlal is currently going through an exciting phase in his acting career, with some promising projects in the pipeline. The Malayalam superstar is reuniting with actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran for the sequel to their 2019 blockbuster, Lucifer. The project, which has been titled L2 Empuraan, started rolling in October of this year. In a recent interview with a leading Malayalam media outlet, Mohanlal extensively spoke about the mass action film and dropped some exciting updates.

Mohanlal reveals L2 Empuraan has a ‘brilliant’ script

The veteran actor, who is currently busy promoting his next outing, Neru, opened up about L2 Empuraan recently. Mohanlal, who is all excited about the Lucifer sequel, revealed that the Prithviraj Sukumaran directorial has a brilliant script. The superstar stated that the project, which is penned by actor-writer Murali Gopy, has been planned on a massive scale. Interestingly, Mohanlal also added that L2 Empuraan is a once-in-a-lifetime project and admitted that such a project is a big risk for the makers.

Mohanlal drops update on L2 Empuraan release date and shooting

In the interview, the Lucifer actor also revealed that the Prithviraj Sukumaran directorial will be primarily shot in foreign locations. Mohanlal confirmed that the next schedule of L2 Empuraan will start rolling in the UK in January 2024. Later, the team will travel to the US, Abudhabi, Chennai, and Gujarat for the pending schedules. The team will later return to Kerala for the final schedule of filming for the action thriller. Interestingly, the Malayalam superstar also confirmed that L2 Empuraan will hit theatres only in 2025.

L2 Empuraan cast and crew

Mohanlal is set to reprise the central character of the Lucifer franchise, Khureshi Ab'ram, aka Stephen Nedumpally, in L2 Empuraan. Director Prithviraj Sukumaran, on the other hand, will return to play the role of Zayed Masood. Mahira Khan, the popular Pakistani actress, is rumoured to be making her Malayalam debut with the highly anticipated project. However, the makers have not reacted to these reports yet.z

The other prominent cast members of Lucifer, including Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Sai Kumar, Baiju Santhosh, Shivaji Guruvayoor, and others, are expected to reprise their respective roles in L2 Empuraan. Sujith Vaassudev is the director of photography. Deepak Dev composed the songs and the original score. The Mohanlal starrer is bankrolled by Aashirvad Cinemas and Lyca Productions.
