Mohanlal on unbreakable friendship with Mammootty: 40 years of brotherhood and counting

Malayalam superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty share an exemplary friendship that has stood the test of time and adverse situations in the Indian film industry. Despite working in the same film industry, their relationship remains untouched by negativity or rivalry, evolving into a bond akin to that of brothers from different mothers.

As Mammootty celebrated his 72nd birthday on Thursday, Mohanlal shared a heartfelt wish via a special video message to his beloved Ichakka, which is an affectionate term for big brother in Malayalam. Mohanlal reflected on their journey in the film industry, he cherished the moments they shared on-screen, even though they were competitors.

A 40-year bond of brotherhood

"We have been brothers and friends for 40 years. I had the opportunity to share screen space with Ichakka in 53 movies. Together, we have produced five movies," said Mohanlal. 

The mutual love and respect between them have only deepened over the four decades of their friendship. "We have been part of each other's lives through thick and thin, joys and sorrows. He's a brother who's just a call away, always standing by me. There is a profound mutual respect between us. As he completes 50 years in cinema, I wish for him to continue shining on the silver screen for many more years to come," Mohanlal added.

Mammootty turns 72, receives heartfelt wishes

It's noteworthy that even though their movies have clashed at the box office many times in the past, their professional ambitions, ups and downs, have never affected their relationship. 

As Mammootty celebrated his 72nd birthday on September 7, 2023, birthday wishes poured in from all directions. Mammootty continues to inspire everyone with his age-defying looks and jaw-dropping performances in movies. "Many thanks to everyone who made my birthday feel so special. Humbled in every way," tweeted Mammootty, while expressing his gratitude for all the wishes.
