South films have evolved to become a force to reckon with in the Indian cinemascape in the recent years. Even within the south cinema, Telugu industry has led the way in breaking the language barriers and reaching out to far wider audiences across the globe. Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, whose directorial debut Barroz releases in theatres on December 25, 2024, reiterates this while pointing out the sheer hard work that has gone behind such phenomenal success.

Mohanlal on RRR’s popularity

During a recent interview with The Gulf News, Mohanlal spoke about how south films have grown to become a ‘significant hub’ in Indian cinema.

While pointing out that most south films are doing well, the Malayalam superstar said that it is ‘not easy to make an entertainer’. “Behind every successful movie, there’s magic, hard work and effort,” he said.

Notably, SS Rajamouli's RRR competed at the Oscars, with the 'Naatu Naatu’ song winning the Best Original Song Award.

Talking about the popularity of the song, Mohanlal said, “Many may say that the song from RRR being featured on a global stage was luck, but behind that luck there was so much hard work and sweat," he remarked.
