Mohanlal has collaborated with Prithviraj Sukumaran for all three of the filmmaker-actor’s directorial ventures. After their successful stints in Prithviraj’s directorial debut Lucifer and Bro Daddy, they have reunited for L2 Empuraan, which is slated to hit theatre in March 2025. Mohanlal, often called The Complete Actor, lavished praise on the young filmmaker but remarked that 'It is very tough to work' with the Lucifer director.

Mohanlal on Prithviraj

During an interview with Baradwaj Rangan ahead of his film Barroz's release, Mohanlal spoke about working with new-age directors, especially Prithviraj.

Lavishing praise on the actor-filmmaker, Mohanlal said, “Prithviraj is an amazing director. He knows about things such as lensing, equipment, and more importantly about the actor. He will keep on asking you till he gets what he wants. He will make you do that. He is a highly committed director. It is very tough to work with him. You have to surrender yourself.”

The veteran actor further said, “No ego, nothing. Because for the character he will ask, and he will get it. The entire film is in his head. He cannot make a flaw. That's the kind of commitment.”

While Prithviraj’s directorial Lucifer featured Mohanlal’s stellar performance as Stephen Nedumpally, his sophomore venture Bro Daddy saw them reunite as an adorable father-son duo. After the two successful stints, they have reunited for the second instalment of the Lucifer franchise, L2: Empuraan, which will release on March 27, 2025.

He, however, said that other new filmmakers are also committed but they work differently.

When asked if he is reluctant to say yes to other new-age filmmakers, Mohanlal quickly responded with a no and cited his upcoming movie Thudarum. The film, which also stars Shobana, is directed by Tharun Moorthy, whose first film Operation Java garnered much praise for its plot and performances. He will also be joining hands with Aavesham director Jithu Madhavan.

The popular superstar also spoke about his collaboration with Lijo Jose Pellissery - Malaikottai Vaaliban. Though much talked about before the release, the film failed to meet the expectations of his fans and viewers.

Reflecting on the movie’s performance at the box office, Mohanlal said, “The film was very good. But it didn’t come up to the mark. If a movie fails, the entire blame will come on the actor." While remarking that he has to be very careful while choosing films, the actor said, "The entire burden will come on my shoulders. ”

On the other hand, Mohanlal is gearing up for the release of his directorial debut Barroz, which will hit theatres on December 25, 2024.
