Ever since it was announced that ace filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery would be joining hands with Mohanlal for Malaikottai Vaaliban, excitement among fans knew no bounds. Unfortunately, the much-talked-about hit combination of Lijo and Mohanlal failed to impress a vast majority of the audience when it released in theatres on January 25, 2024. Now, the film’s producer Shibu Baby John opens up about Malaikottai Vaaliban’s performance, while denying both the claims of it being a flop and the prospect of a sequel.
Malaikottai Vaaliban is set to complete one year since its theatrical release soon. In a recent interview with Mathrubhumi, Malaikottai Vaaliban co-producer Shibu Baby John reflected on the film's performance while stating that the Mohanlal-starrer was not a flop.
"No, no... it was not a flop. It did not reach the level we expected. When you look at the film's revenue and other factors, it is not an unsuccessful film at all," the producer said that he was able to come out of it without suffering much losses.
When asked if the trio of Lijo, Mohanlal and Shibu Baby John would reunite for a project soon, Malaikottai Vaaliban co-producer replied in the negative
"We have no plans on this combination now. Nor will Malaikottai Vaaliban have a sequel. Whenever we get a subject that suits Mohanlal, then only we will do a film," he explained while adding that the movie will be announced only after ensuring it is a good subject.

Malaikottai Vaaliban revolves around a legendary warrior, who is yet to taste defeat, as he travels from place to place looking for a worthy opponent. Among his many duels, he faces off with the vile Chamathakan. Though Vaaliban wins the battle, he earns an enemy in Chamathakan who sets out to seek revenge.
The epic period action film opened to mixed reviews and disappointed the Mohanlal fans, who were probably expecting a mass film from The Complete Actor. Malaikottai Vaaliban is now available for streaming on Hotstar in five languages, including Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.
