Mohanlal has released the title of his new film by Jeethu Joseph on social media through a motion poster. The film is titled Neru (truth) and has the tagline 'Seeking justice'. In the motion poster, the title is seen written on a braille book that is placed near a statue of Lady Justice and a gavel. The earlier rumours of the film being a courtroom drama seem to have been confirmed by the motion poster.The movie is scripted by Santhi Mayadevi, a lawyer who was also part of Jeethu's Drishyam 2. The film marks her debut as a scriptwriter; she will also be seen in Tamil actor Vijay's action film Leo, which is helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.
Priyamani roped in for Neru
It was recently revealed that Priyamani has been roped in to play an important role in the film. Neru marks the fifth collaboration between Mohanlal and Jeethu and is expected to go on floors on August 17.
Not another Drishyam film
There were rumours that Neru was another installment in the Drishyam franchise. But during a chat with OTTplay, Jeethu clarified that this was false. Neru is bankrolled by Aashirvad Cinemas, which backed the Drishyam franchise and 12th Man.
The Ram connection
Jeethu decided to go with this new movie after Ram, starring Mohanlal, got stalled due to various reasons. The filming of the movie began in 2019 but was interrupted at various times due to the pandemic, bad weather, and scheduling conflicts. According to the director, there are still over 50 days of filming left in the UK, Tunisia, and Morocco. The film boasts an ensemble cast that includes Trisha, Indrajith, and Durga Krishna.
Vrushabha update
Meanwhile, Mohanlal is currently busy with the shoot of his pan-Indian action film Vrushabha, which i s helmed by Nanda Kishore. Vrushabha is a Telugu-Malayalam bilingual that also stars Roshan Meka. Once he finishes the shoot of Vrushabha, Mohanlal will join the sets of Neru, after which he is expected to begin work on Prithiviraj's Empuraan.
