Prithviraj Sukumaran’s directorial Bro Daddy not only has Mohanlal and the actor-director playing father and son, it also has a song rendered by the two stars. The title song of the movie that is titled Vannu Pokum, which is composed by Deepak Dev, will be released today at 6pm, and prior to that the makers had released a video with the music director and Prithviraj talking about it.
Prithviraj said that he had wanted to do a two-minute animated video as part of the title sequence of Bro Daddy. While the visuals of the song that will be released today will have footage from the recording session featuring Mohanlal and Prithviraj, the song will have a clip by animation artist Bhaghya Babu.
The opening title is about a couple, who got married at a very young age and has a baby boy. It’s like a flipbook that the boy turns over and reads to know their story. Prithviraj said that when he shared the idea with Deepak, he was the one who suggested that they make the track a conversation between a father and a son.
“As a filmmaker, you want the best singers for your film’s track and I initially wished for Das (Yesudas) sir and Vijay (Yesudas) to render the song. But when the track was composed, it was a cute song that tells a story. So, I didn’t think it required playback experts for the song. It’s more of a conversation and I thought it would be best if it was heard through the voice of the characters,” said Prithviraj, adding that it’s a simple song.
The actor-director also revealed that unlike for his other films, he didn’t have any references to give to Deepak while composing the background score for Bro Daddy. “But frankly, Deepak’s best work in the movie is not its songs but its re-recording,” said Prithviraj.
Before concluding the video, the actor-director also explained that Bro Daddy is a ‘small’ movie that was conceived during the lockdown. “It was refreshing for me because Bro Daddy had no connection to my debut film (Lucifer) or the second movie (Empuraan) that I was planning to make, in terms of its genre or story. I had to think differently from my set ways and I enjoyed that a lot,” he said.
Bro Daddy, which also has Meena, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Soubin Shahir, Kaniha and Lalu Alex as part of the cast, is set to release directly on Disney+ Hotstar on January 26.
