Although Mohanlal is one of the biggest Malayalam stars of all time and Adoor Gopalakrishnan is among the most renowned filmmakers in the country, the two have never worked together on a film.
Adoor has collaborated with Mohanlal's contemporary, Mammootty, on films like Vidheyan and Mathilukal, but not with Mohanlal. But that seems to be a thing of the past, since it looks like Adoor and Mohanlal are finally joining hands with a children's film that will be backed by General Pictures, the production house behind films like Elippathayam Manju, and Thampu.
According to producer Pratap Nair, the movie is in line with the aspirations of his late father, K Ravindranathan Nair, the founder of General Pictures. "The project is a children's film that was envisioned by my father, K Ravindranathan Nair, back in 2013. Mohanlal was supposed to play the lead in the film. But my father's ailing health prevented him from making his dream a reality. I intend to pay a tribute to him by producing this film," Pratap told The New Indian Express.

However, Adoor Gopalakrishnan hasn't yet said anything about the project. Even Mohanlal has yet to speak about the project. Fans of both the actor and the filmmaker are eagerly awaiting a film with both of them and hope that this just might be it.
Meanwhile, Mohanlal’s upcoming projects are Barroz and Malaikottai Vaaliban which are scheduled to hit theatres in December. According to reports, Malaikottai Vaaliban will be a mass action film of the actor, with moments for the fans to cheer. Barroz, the debut directorial of Mohanlal is a children’s fantasy film shot in 3D.
Mohanlal will be also seen in the pan-Indian epic action movie, Vrushabha and the first schedule of the film is already completed.Jeethu Joseph’s courtroom drama Neru and Lucifer's sequel, Empuraan are the other projects in Mohanlal’s kitty.
