Mohan Babu, as a producer of over 72 films, isn’t someone who’s afraid to experiment, regardless of success and failure. With over 573 films as an actor, a commendable career as a politician and an academician, he isn’t new to challenges. The veteran, who turns 71 today and will be next seen in Shaakuntalam, is testing waters in another arena with his upcoming film.
The ‘Collection King’ confirmed the news in an interview with noted journalist Prabhu today. “I have recently written a pathbreaking script. We think every film is pathbreaking before it takes off. I’m done with experiments, risks. It’s time to showcase my intense side as a performer, with powerful dialogues on the lines of Rayalaseema Ramanna Chowdary and Assembly Rowdy.”
“The film will go on floors soon. We’re yet to decide the director,” he added. While his next film Shaakuntalam, headlined by Samantha, directed by Gunasekhar, hits theatres on April 14, he also essays a crucial role in his daughter Lakshmi Manchu’s production Agni Nakshatram, a cop saga. The release date of the latter, directed by Vamsee Krishna Malla, is yet to be announced.
In the interview, he also hailed RRR team for bagging an Oscar. “We feel proud that Telugu people are making their presence felt on a global platform. I have conveyed my congratulations to SS Rajamouli, MM Keeravaani and Chandrabose. Keeravaani also gave a mindblowing tune for my film - Major Chandrakanth - Punyabhoomi Naa Desam. It’ll remembered as long as Telugu cinema exists.”
The veteran’s last release was Son of India, helmed by Diamond Ratnababu, now (streaming on Amazon Prime Video). He was also the presenter of his son Vishnu Manchu’s comeback film Ginna, an action entertainer by Suryaah (also out on Amazon Prime Video). His special appearance for Surya’s national award-winning film Soorarai Pottru was also well received by audiences across all regions.
