Mithun Chakraborty on Dadasaheb Phalke Award: I’m speechless after getting such a prestigious award

Mithun Chakraborty has a film career of almost five decades. He debuted with Mrinal Sen’s film Mrigayaa in the 70s. While many directors and producers in the Mumbai film industry rejected him, Mrinal Sen launched Mithun. He showed the Hindi film industry that one could touch the summit if one had the dedication and the street-fighter spirit. He received multiple national awards. Now, Mithun will be honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. 

As a reaction, Mithun said, “I became speechless after getting such a prestigious award…I don’t know how to express this. I can’t cry, I can’t smile either. I am dedicating this award to my family and fans across the world”. 

Narendra Modi congratulated Mithun on X. He wrote, “Delighted that Shri Mithun Chakraborty Ji has been conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, recognizing his unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema. He is a cultural icon, admired across generations for his versatile performances. Congratulations and best wishes to him”. Tollywood stars like Rituparna Sengupta, Mamata Shankar, Parambrata Chatterjee, and Rudranil Ghosh also congratulated Mithun. 

Rituparna has a long sisterly relationship with Mithun. She said, “A tremendous news. I am elated. I am proud of Mithunda. I am lucky to have worked with him in Hindi and Bangla. Mithunda always guided me. Getting his love is a blessing to me.”
