Telugu audiences are having a gala time at the theatres and on OTTs this festive season. While there are enough big star films - Leo, Bhagavanth Kesari, Tiger Nageswara Rao - that have kept the ticket registers ringing, a handful of Telugu OTT releases have amassed impressive viewership across multiple OTT platforms. Here’s a look at the biggest Telugu OTT hits in the recent times.
Prema Vimanam - ZEE5
The direct-to-OTT release starring Sangeeth Shobhan, Saanve Megghana, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Anirudh Nama and Devansh Nama had all the ingredients to please family crowds and youngsters with its likeable, feel-good premise. It’s not surprising that the web film has amassed over 50 million views on ZEE5 already. Santosh Kata directed the film produced by Abhishek Nama.
Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty - Netflix
If audiences recollect well, a lot of the feedback about Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty said that the film would make for ideal OTT viewing, given the light-hearted, warm treatment of a contemporary story. It is the fourth most watched film in India on Netflix the previous week and has stayed in the top 10 list for 3 weeks since its OTT premiere. Naveen Polishetty, Anushka Shetty played the lead roles.
Kushi - Netflix
While the Vijay Deverakonda, Samantha starrer didn’t exactly have a dream run in theatres, the relationship drama directed by Shiva Nirvana got its due on OTT. The Hindi and Telugu versions of the film premiered on Netflix on October 1 and has found a place in the top 10 viewed list for over three weeks. They’re the seventh and the tenth-most watched films between October 16-22 as well.
The Great Indian Suicide - aha
Ram Karthik, Hebah Patel, Naresh and Pavitra Lokesh essayed lead roles in this thriller that arrived sans any hype on OTT while skipping its theatrical release. The film’s success is truly an example of good word-of-mouth creating wonders, widening its reach globally. The Great Indian Suicide, earlier this week, created a new record, with a streaming time of 50 million viewing minutes on aha.
