Rasika Dugal’s next onscreen venture is to be a sports drama, the working title of which is Spike. The upcoming series will be based on the sport of volleyball.
According to a report in Deadline, the series is created by Nishtha Shailajan and Dhaval Shah, who will also direct and write the series along with Pratik Thakare. The show will be produced under the former’s production banner of Imber Media.
Dugal will essay the role of a volleyball coach on the series. The Mirzapur actress had spent over three months in Mumbai training for the sport in preparation for her role. Expressing her excitement on being a part of the show, the actress had revealed that sports dramas were one of her all time favourite genres to watch. She said even if such a film or television show in the genre were predictable and generic, she would watch and enjoy it nonetheless.
She also talked about how as an actor she was drawn to parts which were challenging and involved her learning something new. She also referred to volleyball as being a difficult sport, and that preparing for her role required her to put in a lot of arduous training and effort. She also expressed her thrill at bagging a role in the drama, which she said was unlike any other roles she had done before.

The upcoming series had wrapped up the first part of production in Himachal Pradesh. The second schedule would begin sometime in January next year.
