Although The Fall of the House of Usher is the name of one of Poe’s gothic short stories, Flanagan had earlier mentioned that his show would borrow from several of Poe’s works.

The Academy Award nominated Langella will lead the cast as Roderick Usher, the Usher dynasty’s patriarch and a character featured in Poe’s story. McDonnell will play his sister, Madeline.

The character of C Auguste Dupin, an investigator who featured in several of Poe’s stories, will be portrayed by Lumbly. Hamill and Gugino’s roles in the project were not explicitly mentioned. The current project would mark the actress’ fourth collaboration with Flanagan after Gerald’s Game, The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor.
