Metro... In Dino to release in December: 8 much-awaited sequels releasing in 2023

The year 2023 might just go down as one of sequels in Bollywood, with sequels of around 10 Hindi films planned to be released this year. Sunny Deol announced the release date of his film Gadar 2 on Republic Day, and earlier today, Anurag Basu said that Metro… In Dino, the sequel to his 2007 hit Life in a…Metro will release on December 8.

Tiger 3
Release date: April 21, 2023
The third instalment in the Tiger franchise sees Salman Khan as Tiger and Katrina Kaif as Zoya reuniting in this spy thriller. Joining them is Emraan Hashmi, who plays the antagonist. What is exciting is that Shah Rukh Khan makes a special appearance in the film. In keeping with tradition, the film is slated to release on Eid.

OMG: Oh My God 2
Release date: April/May 2023
The comedy-drama, a sequel to the 2012 film OMG - Oh My God!, stars Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam in lead roles. Akshay plays Lord Shiva in the mythological film that is directed by Amit Rai. It is speculated that the movie focuses on sex education in schools.

Dream Girl 2
Release date: June 29, 2023
The comedy drama by Raaj Shaandilyaa stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Pandey in lead roles. Ayushmann reprises his role of Pooja, while Ananya plays his lady love. It is the spiritual sequel (a film that is similar to or directly inspired by a previous work, but does not explicitly continue the franchise) of the 2019 film Dream Girl.

Gadar 2
Release date: August 11, 2023
Much of the star cast from the 2001 hit film has been retained for Gadar 2. This includes Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma, who reprise their roles. Luv Sinha, Simrat Kaur, Manish Wadhwa and Gaurav Chopra will also be seen in pivotal roles in Gadar 2. The makers gave a glimpse of the movie, in which Sunny is seen in a powerful avatar, on Republic Day.

Fukrey 3
Release date: September 7, 2023
The third part of the Fukrey franchise stars Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Manjot Singh and Richa Chadha. Ali Fazal, who has been a part of the first two instalments, couldn't be a part of the third one as it clashes with his web series, Mirzapur 3. Fukrey 3 is directed by Mrigdeep Singh Lamba.

Yaariyan 2
Release date: October 20, 2023
The sequel to the 2014 film Yaariyan, it stars director-actor Divya Khosla Kumar and Yash Dasgupta in lead roles. The romantic film is directed by Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao, and is touted to be a fun roller coaster ride about three young people who go to bengaluru to dream, discover and explore. The challenges they form transform their lives.

Metro... In Dino
Release date: December 8, 2023
A sequel to the 2007 hit Life in a...Metro, Anurag Basu’s Metro... In Dino stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkana Sensharma, Ali Fazal and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The anthology of heartwarming stories of contemporary couples depicts stories of bittersweet relationships in a modern-day scenario.

Apne 2
Release date: Not yet revealed
Directed by Anil Sharma, the sequel to the much-loved family drama Apne is slated to release at the end of the year. Apne 2 will see three generations of the Deol family working together on screen for the first time as it stars veteran actor Dharmendra, his actor sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, and grandson Karan Deol. 

Will these films also release in 2023?

Krrish 4
Director Rakesh Roshan has said that he has planned something on a massive scale for the sequel of Krrish 4. Lead actor Hrithik Roshan had announced back in June 2021 that the fourth instalment of the film would be made. Speaking about the film on his birthday earlier this month, Hrithik had said in one interview, "Everything is set (for Krrish 4), but we are stuck on one little technicality. Hopefully, we will overcome that by year end. Krrish 4 is definitely in the pipeline and it will happen real soon."

Dostana 2
It was in 2019 when Karan Johar announced Dostana 2, the sequel to much-loved 2008 romantic comedy Dostana, Priyanka Chopra, John Abraham, and Abhishek Bachchan. The follow-up initially had Janhvi Kapoor, Kartik Aaryan and Laksh Lalwani, but things came to a standstill after Kartik’s exit. There is no clarity as yet into the fate of the sequel.

Aashiqui 3
The third instalment is slated to release this year, with Kartik Aaryan in the lead role. Directed by Anurag Basu, Aashiqui 3 also stars Jennifer Winget, Pankaj Rajput and Shivam Gaur. Speaking about being associated with the film, Kartik had said, “The timeless classic Aashiqui is something I grew up watching and working on Aashiqui 3 is like a dream come true! I feel privileged yet grateful collaborating with Bhushan Sir and Mukesh Sir for this opportunity. I’ve been a big fan of Anurag Sir’s work and collaborating with him on this one has definitely shaped me in many ways.”

Singham 3
Rohit Shetty has confirmed that there will be a third Singham movie, in which he will be reuniting with Ajay Devgn. According to some reports, Deepika Padukone will play a female cop in the film, and the shooting is slated to commence in mid-2023.
