Though Meryl Streep has continued sporting her wedding band, post separation, the ring was still sported by the iconic actress on Friday for the Princesa de Asturias Awards. Though the couple had previously been happily together for 45 years, via statement, a spokesperson recently revealed to People Magazine, “Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than six years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart.”
The duo were last seen together at the Oscars of 2018. They share four children- Henry Wolfe, Mamie Gummer, Grace Gummer, and Louisa Jacobson, along with five grandchildren. Gummer and Streep, first introduced by her brother Harry, hit it off despite mourning deeply the loss of her late boyfriend John Cazale, who had passed away from lung cancer that very year.
Previously according to Streep, the secret to their longetivity was “goodwill and willingness to bend-- and to shut up every once in a while. There’s no road map on how to raise a family: It’s always an enormous negotiation. But I have a holistic need to work and to have huge ties of love in my life. I can’t imagine eschewing one for the other.”
Last seen as a part of Extrapolations and Only Murders in the Building Season 2, the 74-year old actress has remained active within the filmy scenario throughout this year. Pre-separation, in 2017, following being awarded Best Actress for her performance in The Iron Lady, she had said, “First, I’m going to thank Don because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech, they play him out with music. I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives you’ve given me.”
However, it is only the cordial relation and respect maintained between Streep and Gummer that is the secret to their respective lives and successes.
