Merry Little Batman OTT release date: When, where to watch DC's Christmas animation movie

The holiday season has been beckoned early this December as joining Willy Wonka is the caped crusader himself. DC's latest spin on The Dark Knight includes a special pre-Christmas animation movie titled 'Merry Little Batman', which is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on December 8, 2023. 

The trailer introduces us to the heartwarming shenanigans of Batman himself, his son Damian Wayne, the Joker (of course) and many more heroes and villains from the DC Universe. It so happens that on Christmas Eve, Batman is obligated to take on Gotham's supervillains and leave Damian alone at home. The superhero-in-the-making must now deal with The Joker's unusual plot of stealing Christmas from the general public and rise to the occasion, much like his father, to save the day for the people of the beloved city.

Child artist Yonas Kibreab stars as the voice of Damian Wayne with the rest of the cast of 'Merry Little Batman' also including Luke Wilson, James Cromwell and David Hornsby. Mike Roth has directed the film based on the screenplay by Morgan Evans and Jase Ricci.

'Merry Little Batman' is one of the many shows from the DC roster to head to Prime Video and the same streamer will soon turn host to another hugely-anticipated animated series, Batman: Caped Crusader. Created by J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm, Batman: Caped Crusader will serve as the spiritual successor to Batman: The Animated Series and will boast the same hallmarks or features of the iconic 1992 show.

Many would know that Batman: The Animated Series has stood tall over the years as a groundbreaking superhero show. The three-season TV series, created by Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski, has received a lot of praise for its thematic complexity, its storytelling technique and the general 'noir' essence it is imbued with. Batman: Caped Crusader, as reports suggest, is likely to come as a nod to this cult classic series from the '90s and it helps that Bruce Timm is back at the helm of things as the showrunner of the upcoming show.
