Mem Famous out on OTT: When and where to watch Sumanth Prabhas’ coming-of-age comedy

Mem Famous, marking the debut of YouTuber Sumanth Prabhas as a writer, actor and director in feature films, was a surprise hit this summer. The film released in theatres on May 26 to mixed responses initially but gradually gained steam at the box office and turned out to be a profitable venture for its producers. Writer Padmabhushan makers - Sharath Chandra, Anurag Reddy, Chandru Manoharan of Chai Bisket Films and Lahari Films - bankrolled the project.

The team adopted innovative publicity strategies to woo audiences to theatres and succeeded in generating enough attention prior to release. Despite clashing with multiple small-budget films, Mem Famous made its presence felt, thanks to several biggies - Anil Ravipudi, Vijay Deverakonda, Vishwak Sen, Nani, Harish Shankar - who helped them spread the word about it. After a successful theatrical run, the film is out now on OTT.

Amazon Prime Video acquired its post-theatrical streaming rights and decided to stream the film this Friday. Mani Aegurla, Mourya Chowdary, Saarya, Siri Raasi ,Kiran Macha, Anji Mama, Narendra Ravi, Muralidhar Goud, Shiva Nandan played other important roles in the film. Kalyan Nayak scored the music for the dramedy which had cinematography by Shyam Dupati and was edited by Srujana Adusumilli.

The film revolves around Mahesh, Balakrishna and Durga, three aimless friends who notoriously find ways to get in trouble for petty issues. Before the situation spirals out of control, the trio decides to take charge of their life and set up tents in their village for a living. However, an unfortunate mishap wreaks havoc on their ambitions. To what length will they go to settle their debts?

The performances by the lead characters, the light-hearted treatment and the impressive dialogues received praise upon release. However, a few opined that the film went too far in cashing in on the popularity of Telangana slang among audiences. Goreti Venkanna’s song Galli Chinnadhi was one of the major highlights of Mem Famous. It’s expected to be an ideal watch for netizens this weekend.
