Baby fame actor Viraj Ashwin, nephew of noted technician Marthand K Venkatesh, recently headlined a quirky new-age tale titled Mayapetika. The film had screenplay and was directed by Ramesh Raparthi, who wielded the megaphone for aha’s direct-to-OTT release Thank You Brother (starring Viraj Ashwin, Anasuya). Mayapetika hit screens on June 30.

Mayapetika received mixed reviews upon release and had a modest run at the box office. It received praise for its quirky, unusual premise. Nearly a couple of months after its theatrical run, the film is gearing up for its OTT premiere. Noted streaming platform aha has acquired its post-theatrical digital rights. Earlier this week, the streamer confirmed the OTT premiere date of Mayapetika.
The film will be out on aha on September 15. The drama featured a bevvy of actors including Gadar 2 fame Simrat Kaur, Payal Rajput, Rajath Raghav, Sunil, Prudhvi Raj, Srinivas Reddy, Himaja, and Syamala Are, to name a few. Magunta Sarath Chandra Reddy and Tharaknath Bommi Reddy bankrolled the film under Just Ordinary Entertainments.
Mayapetika is an anthology of six short stories interconnected through a mobile phone. Each of these stories is related to the socio-economic condition of the characters concerned and this mobile changes hands from one family to another each passing day. Suresh Ragutu cranked the camera for the film which had music by Guna Balasubramanian. Purushottam is the art director while Mayapetika had two editors - D Venkata Prabhu and Nav Cuts. Magunta Venkata Narayana Reddy presented the film. OTTplay.com's critic hailed the film for its interesting concept, comedy scenes but believed the film had nothing new to offer.
