Kannada filmmakers who have been waiting patiently to release their movies, some of which were ready well before the pandemic and others that got done in the last two years, are making a beeline for cinema halls, now that all the big-ticket releases have come and gone. Even though KGF: Chapter 2 is still in theatres and going strong, film teams are looking to utilize all available windows between now and July 28, when Kiccha Sudeep’s Vikrant Rona comes out.
According to the latest, the week of May 20 has as many as six Kannada releases vying for movie halls in the state. First up to announce was Siddharth Mahesh with his film Garuda, which also stars Srinagara Kitty, Ashika Ranganath and Aindrita Ray in pivotal roles. Next up was Daali Dhananjaya with his Kannada-Malayalam bilingual Twenty One Hours, in which he plays a cop investigating a missing girl’s case.
Crazy Star Ravichandran’s son, Manu Ravichandran was supposed to have a release on May 13, with the Manu Kalyadi directorial Prarambha, but the makers have apparently pushed it ahead to May 20. The film pairs Manu with Keerthy Kalakeri. Also in theatres that day is Kandhidi Nodana, which is also an investigative story about a particular case handled by a police officer, played by filmmaker Nagendra Urs. The film also stars Pranava Surya in the lead.
Fifth in line is Cutting Shop, which the makers say is the first film about a film editor. Directed by Pavan Bhat, the film stars KB Praveen, Archana Kottige, Naveen Krishna, SK Bhagavan, Vatsala Mohan, among others.
And last but not the least is Sakutumba Sametha, actor-filmmaker Rakshit Shetty’s production, which announced its release date as May 20 earlier today when the trailer dropped online. Directed by Rahul PK, the film stars Bharath GB and Siri Ravikumar in the lead.
