Kiccha Sudeep’s Max, which released on December 25, has spent a little over 2 weeks at the box office. Amid largely positive reviews from critics, fans and neutral audiences, Max had a good 1st week, after which there was a slump. But even then, industry trackers reckon that at the end of 2 weeks, the film grossed between Rs 60 cr to Rs 62 cr.

Official figures have not been revealed, but it is said that the film’s collections make it the highest Kannada grosser of 2024. Despite this distinction, it has been reported that Max has not recovered its budget and is unlikely to from theatrical business. The budget of Max is said to be around Rs 65 crore, and the film is still Rs 20 crore shy of this, which, given its current form, is unlikely to be recovered.

Chances of the film breaking into the Rs 100 club are also getting slimmer by the day. Incidentally, when reports of Max’s 2 week box office collections emerged, it was said that the film had performed better than his last, Vikrant Rona. The Anup Bhandari directorial was made at close to Rs 100 crore, which it did not recover, falling short by Rs 17 cr, a source says. This would still place it above Max, as far as highest grossers for Sudeep films go.

According to reports, Sudeep, who is credited as co-producer, will take home the theatrical share of the business, while Kalaippuli S Thanu gets the revenue from satellite and digital sales. A few days ago, it was said that Max would end its theatrical run once the Sankranti/Pongal films from Tamil and Telugu cinema release. While Sudeep’s film is still in theatres, worryingly for the team, on January 10, social media was abuzz after it was reported that a high-definition print of Max had been leaked.
