Max release date: Kiccha Sudeep preps for yet another box office clash; this time with Upendra’s UI

Even though the practice, by and large, is for A-list actors movie releases (within the industry) to be spaced out, Kiccha Sudeep is no stranger to such competition

When Kiccha Sudeep’s Max releases on December 25, it will be only 5 days into Real Star Upendra’s UI’s box office journey. Despite rumours that UI will be postponed, as VFX work is still ongoing and the team is yet to begin promotions, the makers insist that they will meet the planned release date. Netizens are divided about this clash of two big and anticipated Kannada films.

While many believe that between Upendra and Sudeep, the Christmas box office will belong to Kannada cinema, there are voices against this clash, who reckon that Max should have moved to Sankranti 2025. Of course, if UI does not release on December 20, there is no question of a clash in Sandalwood, it is only with the rest of the films that are coming to theatres between December 20 and 25.

Kiccha Sudeep's box office clashes

This, though, is not Sudeep’s first rodeo in terms of a box office clash. The last time was in 2021, when his Kotigobba 3 was pitted against Duniya Vijay’s directorial debut, Salaga. Owing to some issue with the distributor, Kotigobba had a delayed start by a day, which proved to be a boon for Salaga. Not long ago, producer MN Kumar had alleged that Shanti Nivasa clashed with Darshan’s Suntaragali and Mukunda Murari with Yash’s Santhu Straight Forward at the behest of the actor.

If UI fails to make it to theatres, Max’s box office reach and performance will largely depend on the reception to Disney’s Mufasa, Akshay Kumar’s Welcome to the Jungle, and Unni Mukundan’s Marco. Among them, Marco is the film that is about high-octane action, what with its revenge thriller theme and the kind that audiences here are likely to enjoy. On Christmas Day, Max will be joined by Varun Dhawan’s Baby John, which is an adaptation of Vijay’s Theri, and Barroz, a fantasy adventury film that marks Malayalam star Mohanlal’s directorial debut.

Max’s release date, of course, will also impact the Kannada films that were eyeing the December 27 slot, like Rishi’s Rudra Garuda Purana, among others.
