A little more than an hour ago, the release date of Kiccha Sudeep’s much-awaited Max was announced – it will be in theatres on December 25, joining a plethora of other films in trying to make the most of the festive season. The film’s producer Kalaippuli S Thanu and Karnataka distributor Karthik Gowda have been at the forefront of the release date updates on social media, whether it was the post that the release date would be announced on November 27 or the actual announcement itself.

Sudeep's last Max post was on July 16

None of this has come from leading man Sudeep’s social media handles. The actor has always been quite active on X (formerly Twitter), and while he’s kept a low profile since his mother’s passing in late October, he surfaced a couple of weeks ago, to release the trailer of a new Kannada film, Maryade Prashne. That was his last X post. Since then, there’s been absolutely nothing. In fact, the last time Sudeep posted something related to Max was on July 16, when he shared the teaser.

In the last few months, there have been rumors that all’s not well between the actor and the production house. Is his silence affirming these rumors?

Max is a film that Sudeep began shooting for in June of 2023. Shot predominantly in Mahabalipuram, the film’s schedules often coincided with the actor’s hosting duties on Bigg Boss Kannada Season 10. At a media briefing a couple of days ahead of his birthday this year, Sudeep had spoken at length about how taxing it was for him to shuttle between Mahabalipuram and Bengaluru, which was physically draining.

The film’s making was delayed a couple of times, owing to inclement weather and floods in Chennai, among others, but given that Sudeep’s always been a one-film-at-a-time actor, this meant that the gap between his last release Vikrant Rona and Max kept getting bigger by the day. He has vowed that going forward, he will work on more than one film at a time, so that he doesn’t sit idle when there are interruptions in schedules with one project or the other.
