Rural dramas are roaring in Telugu cinema - the success of films like Balagam, Mem Famous, Dasara is inspiring many filmmakers to try their hand at rooted storytelling with little-known faces. Matti Katha is another attempt in that direction. Ajay Ved, Maya, Sudhakar Reddy play key roles in the film directed by Pavan Kadiyala.

Appi Reddy is bankrolling the film under Mic Movies and Appi Reddy Productions. The trailer of the film was unveiled by RRR, SSMB29 writer Vijayendra Prasad today. The glimpse takes us through the trials and tribulations of three youngsters in a sleepy village in Telangana and their sweet-little ambitions and dreams.

The protagonists talk about sipping a bottle of beer for the first time, wile away their time, dream of shifting to a city and fall in love. The drama takes a serious turn a college girl accuses her teacher of sexual harassment and the protagonists come to her rescue. What’s the price they need to pay for standing up to powerful men and fighting for truth?

Matti Katha focuses on several other issues specific to the village residents and how they stand by each other through their thick and thin. While the similarities between the film and the recent successes in Telugu cinema are obvious, there’s an earnest attempt to capture the truth of the village. The newcomers do well to stay true to the spirit of the story and have good screen presence.

Kanakavva, Dayanand Reddy, Balveer Singh, Akshay, Raju Aluri, Bathurst Tena, Ruchitha, Seetha Mahalaxmi Mallesham, Nanda Gopal play key roles in the film too. Pavan Kadiyala has also written the story of the film while Sainath is the cinematographer. Smaran Sai has scored the music and the film has two editors - Uday Khumbam, Ram Krishna. Satish Manjeera is the co-producer and G Hema Sunder is the creative head. Nihilesh Sunkoji is the sole lyricist.
