Thaneer Mathan Dinangal, which released in 2019, proved to be a huge lesson for Malayalam filmmakers as well as the business. The movie, which comprised mostly newcomers such as Mathew Thomas, Anaswara Rajan and Naslen Gafoor, went on to be one of the biggest hits of the year and the trio have since then enjoyed a huge popularity especially among the young audience.
That’s why Mathew’s latest film, Prakashan Parakkatte’s OTT rights have been snapped up by a leading streaming platform, even before its theatrical release. The film, which also has Dileesh Pothan, Aju Varghese, Saiju Kurup, Dhyan Sreenivasan, Sreejith Ravi and Nisha Sarang, is set to hit theatres on June 17.
Revolving around a teenager who wants to chase his goal, Prakashan Parakkatte is set against a rural backdrop and takes the audience through the journey of how Mathew’s character leaves his hometown to find his calling. The movie is scripted by Dhyan and helmed by debutant Shahad Nilambur.
Told through humour, the film also explores the relationship between the father and son, essayed by Dileesh and Mathew. The film’s streaming rights have been sold to ZEE5, according to reports. Its satellite rights too were purchased by Zee. The streaming service’s latest Malayalam releases include Super Sharanya, Ellam Sheriyakum and Aaha. Asif Ali’s Kunjeldho is also set to drop on the streaming platform soon.
Meanwhile, Mathew’s next release is Jo and Jo that is set to hit theatres on May 13. The movie, directed by Arun D Jose, revolves around siblings Jomol and Jomon, played by Nikhila Vimal and Mathew. Their frustrations peak after being stuck home with each other and their parents during the pandemic lockdown.
The movie, which is a coming-of-age entertainer, also has Mathew teaming up with Naslen after Thaneer Mathan Dinangal. Johny Antony, Sminu and Melvin are also part of the cast of the movie, which is co-scripted by Arun.
