Bijou Thaangjam, whose claim to fame is Masterchef 2011, in which he was among the top 50 contestants, and then moved on to becoming an actor and lyricist, among others, is now Sandalwood bound. Bijou will be seen in the Kannada film Chilli Chicken, a teaser of which was revealed earlier today. Prateek’s film follows five young men from the North East, all of who are employees at a bustling Chinese food eatery run by actor Shrunga BV.
The teaser gives no hint as to what the real-life incident is, but has fleeting glimpses of life at the restaurant and outside of it for the boys. The film is likely to be in theatres shortly. Chilli Chicken is said to be a social commentary dramedy.
Bijou, who was last seen in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, made his big screen debut in 2014, with director Omkar’s Mary Kom biopic, in which he also served as lyricist. Since then, Bijou has been seen in several Hindi films like Shivaay, Jagga Jasoos, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, Penalty, Made in China, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, Rastra Kavach Om, besides also doing a bunch of web series. The actor, who is of Meitei descent from Manipur, is most often seen onscreen as a Chinese or Japanese citizen.
While Prateek honed his skills working on the sets of Padmavat and Andhadhun, Shrunga is a popular theatre artiste in Bengaluru, who also does the occasional film. He was last seen onscreen in director Mansore’s 19.20.21, in which he played a tribal youth. This was also based on a true incident. Up next, Shrunga will be seen in Abracadabra, a Paramvah Studios production, in which he plays a magician. The film had its Bengaluru premiere at the Bengaluru International Film Festival, but is yet to come to theatres.
