On October 11, Dhruva Sarja’s much-delayed Martin will finally hit theatres. According to the makers, the film will be released in as many as 13 languages, including a few foreign ones too. The distribution partners for various belts in India have been finalized and the film has been censored U/A, which means that Martin will meet this date with audiences after all.
The film, according to producer Uday K Mehta, will be released in a whopping 3,000 theatres, with more than half of that coming from the north belt, where Sri Lakshmi Ganapathy Films is the distribution partner. In the south, Martin will have a tough fight at the box office, as it is clashing with Superstar Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan, which is releasing a day ahead on October 10.
Martin, which was launched in 2021 and was to have been in theatres for Dasara 2022 along with Kantara, has had several delays and is finally coming to theatres. While the film has been mounted on a big scale, its final budget, which is rumoured to be in the Rs 80 crore to Rs 100 crore range, is said to be a result of the delay in production. Uday steadfastly refuses to comment on the final budget, given that the final leg of promotions has just begun.
The question, therefore, is, will the film recover its budget and some more? Martin will, no doubt, have a decent opening in Karnataka, but in the rest of the south, Vettaiyan will be the bigger release of the week. The reviews of both films are, therefore, vital to decide screen/show allocation during the festive season.
Martin, meanwhile, has Dhruva playing an Indian soldier, Arjun Saxena, his fights for the country and journey of finding himself. The film also stars Vaibhavi Shandilya, Anveshi Jain, Nikitin Dheer, among others.
