Mari Selvaraj, the acclaimed filmmaker made a place for himself in the film industry with back-to-back memorable films. His films always earned immense love from audiences for their socially relevant themes. Even though the Vaazhai director always opted to make meaningful cinema, he has always enjoyed commercial cinema as well. In a recent interview, Mari Selvaraj revealed that he has been a huge fan of Thalapathy Vijay since the actor entered the film industry.

In a recent interview with Cinema Vikatan, Mari Selvaraj opened up about his deep admiration for Thalapathy Vijay. Interestingly, the filmmaker became a big fan of the crowd puller, before he emerged as the ultimate mass hero of Tamil cinema. According to the Vaazhai director, he fell in love with Vijay, the actor, watching his iconic love stories. Interestingly, Mari Selvaraj revealed that his friends used to make fun of him because he eagerly waited to watch Vijay’s romantic films.

Interestingly, the Maamannan director also named his all-time favourite Thalapathy Vijay films, in his interview with Cinema Vikatan. According to Mari Selvaraj, these films not just entertained him, but also made him realise that he has what it takes to tell a story and make films. Poove Unakkaga, the 1996-released Vikraman directorial, the 1997-released Fazil film Kadhalukku Mariyadhai, are Mari Selvaraj’s favourite Vijay films.

Interestingly, the filmmaker revealed that he wanted to fall in love with a girl, get his heart broken, and go somewhere after he watched Poove Unakkaga. Mari Selvaraj stated that Thalapathy Vijay’s performance in the film even made the heartbreak look so desirable. The Mamannan director also recalled dancing to all the famous Vijay songs of that time and added that the superstar greatly influenced his life.

Along with Vijay, the movie also features Sangeetha and Anju Aravind, in the lead roles. Kadhalukku Mariyadhai, which is an official remake of Malayalam blockbuster Aniyathipravu, is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Shalini reprised her character from the original in the remake, while Vijay replaced Kunchacko Boban as the protagonist.
