Director Mari Selvaraj, who is known to deliver some hard-hitting Tamil films, recently opened up about the possibilities of making a sequel for his latest film Vaazhai 2, at the success party event of the film. Vaazhai, which is currently running in theatres, is a film based on the director's childhood and opened to positive reception upon release.

Recently the makers of Vaazhai held a movie success event, in which the director of the film Mari Selvaraj addressed the positive reception he received for the film. Vaazhai is set in a banana plantation in Tirunelveli and talks about its labourers. It is based on the life of Mari Selvaraj. Speaking at the event, Mari Selvaraj addressed the probability of making a sequel for the film.

"Vaazhai was taken to convey who Mari Selvaraj is. If you have any confusion still, I will keep making more films to tell it. There are also possibilities of making Vaazhai 2. There are many more stories to tell, and I will make Vaazhai 2 with the same cast, because there is more pain and stories behind this,” director Mari Selvaraj said. However, he did not mention when the film is expected to come.

Vaazhai on OTT

Disney+ Hotstar has bagged the post-theatrical streaming rights of Vaazhai. The film will soon be available for streaming on the platform. An official OTT release date for the film is yet to be announced.

Vaazhai is presented by the banners Disney+ Hotstar, Navvi Studios, and Farmer’s Master Plan Production, with Red Giant Movies releasing it. The cast comprises of Ponvel M, Raghul R, Kalaiyarasan, Nikhila Vimal, J Sathish Kumar, Dhivya Duraisamy, Janaki, and others. The technical crew consists of cinematographer Theni Eswar and editor Suriya Pradhaman. Santhosh Narayanan has scored the music for the film.

Vaazhai opened to positive reviews upon its release. Speaking to OTTplay about making the film, Mari Selvaraj said that Vaazhai took a mental toll on him, and is a film that expresses both the most painful and happiest day of his life.
