It's Fahadh Faasil's birthday today and Maamannan director Mari Selvaraj took to his social media handle to wish the actor on the special occasion. Dropping an unseen BTS picture from the film, Mari Selvaraj penned a heartfelt note on Fahadh Faasil and how he brilliantly imbibed the role of casteist politician Rathnavelu and brought out his vision to the T.
Mari Selvaraj penned the note in Tamil, which roughly translates to, "I love your eyes. I conceptualised the character of Rathnavelu keeping your eyes in mind. I asked you to have the beliefs that have been passed down from one generation to another in one eye and to express the confusion and aggressive questions of the next generation and the contradictory views in the other. You perfectly expressed the two opposite views through your eyes. Towards the end, I asked you to close both your eyes and you did it without asking a single question. I made the voice of Dr Ambedkar echo in your chest. You had a goosebump-inducing moment at that time, ran toward me and gave me a hug. Today, I remember the ecstatic moment."

The plot revolves around Maamannan (Vadivelu), an MLA from an oppressed community, who faces discrimination from dominant caste politicians, despite all of them hailing from a party that propagates social justice.
However, though Mari Selvaraj cast Rathnavelu as a character that people love to hate, the irony is that some have used the opportunity to glorify his character and propagate casteism on social media .
Here's the trailer of Maamannan
Maamannan stars Udhayanidhi Stalin, Keerthy Suresh and Lal and has music by AR Rahman. This is AR Rahman's maiden collaboration with Mari Selvaraj and the ace composer, too, had called Fahadh Faasil's character 'scary'.
Maamannan is currently trending on no.1 on Netflix and has become one of the most watched films on the OTT platform. Maamannan is bankrolled by Red Giant Movies and marks Udhayanidhi Stalin's last film as an actor.
