Marco star Unni Mukundan steps down as AMMA treasurer - 'I now realize the importance of...'

Unni Mukundan has been in the national spotlight after his movie Marco made waves across the country. Apart from his film commitments, Unni Mukundan is also treasurer of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). But Unni Mukundan has now announced that he would be stepping down from his position as the treasurer of AMMA. Read on to know what prompted the Marco star to take this decision and what he has said about his stint in the AMMA committee.

Unni Mukundan resigns as AMMA treasurer

Unni Mukundan, who has notched up the tag of action superstar with the brutal actioner Marco, took to Instagram on January 14 and announced his decision to resign as treasurer of AMMA.

“I have made the difficult decision to step down from my role as the Treasurer (AMMA),” said the actor in a statement on social media, and also acknowledged that it has been both an exciting and rewarding experience.

"In recent months, the increasing demands of my work, particularly with Marco and other production commitments, have significantly impacted my mental health. Balancing these responsibilities, along with the pressures of my professional life, has become overwhelming. I now realize the importance of stepping back to focus on my own well-being and that of my family’s," the actor said.

Though he has given his best, Unni said that he cannot continue to fulfil his duties and that it is with a ‘heavy heart’ that he is submitting his resignation. But the actor also said that he will continue to serve until a new member replaces him.

Unni Mukundan was elected as AMMA treasurer in June 2024, and he replaced Siddique.

On the other hand, Unni Mukundan has secured much appreciation for his movie Marco which made a mark in several other regions, including the Telugu states, Mumbai and Delhi. With gory action and stomach-churning violence that did not even spare children, the film truly lived up to its tag of being the most violent film from Malayalam. A sequel has also been announced for the Haneef Adeni directorial.
