Malayalam star Unni Mukundan’s Marco is setting some lofty goals for other films from the industry to chase. The Haneef Adeni directorial, which was rated A by the CBFC for its violent action scenes, has already raked in close to Rs 60 Cr worldwide by the end of its first week, and still has strength enough to make it to the Rs 75 Cr club by the end of the final weekend of 2024.
What would be immensely satisfying for its makers is that it’s not just the Malayalam version that has been doing well at the box office, but also the Hindi-dubbed one, which has now reportedly eclipsed the collections of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Aadujeevitham Hindi version, which made Rs 42 lakh in the North Indian box office. Marco is on track to gross Rs 1 Cr from North India alone.
FIlm industry tracker Sacnilk reported that the Unni Mukundan film had closed its first week with a worldwide collection of Rs 52.8 Cr, and extended this by an additional Rs 7 Cr worldwide, on the final Friday of 2024. The movie made Rs 2.35 Cr from the Indian market on December 27, taking its domestic tally to a total just shy of Rs 30 Cr.

Its Hindi version is expected to improve its revenue, with the film’s team announcing that the number of shows has been increased from 34 to 140. The negative reviews of Baby John as well as the record-breaking box-office run of Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 nearing its end had also helped the movie, which has Bollywood actor Kabir Duhan Singh essaying the role of the antagonist Cyrus.
Marco will get a further boost, starting from January 1, with its Telugu version opening to 500 screens across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The first two weeks of 2025 could also be the final week of Marco’s theatrical run, with several films including Tovino Thomas’ Identity, Asif Ali’s Rekhachithram and Ram Charan’s Game Changer set for release on January 2 and 10 respectively.
The movie revolves around a vengeful youngster Marco, who goes on a revenge spree after his brother Victor is murdered. This, however, also has grave consequences when his family is caught in the crossfire. The movie is rated A for its violent and graphic scenes, including brutal murder of children. Meanwhile, the film's lead actor Unni has also confirmed plans for two sequels of Marco, which incidentally is based on a character from Nivin Pauly's 2019 movie Mikhael.
