There seems to be no stopping for Unni Mukundan’s Marco in Kerala, with the film miles ahead of its competitors Rifle Club and Extra Decent during the Christmas box office race. The film, which had been seeing gains since its opening, registered its first dip in earnings on Monday. But this was on expected lines, considering that it’s a weekday.
Despite this, the Haneef Adeni film registered over Rs 4 Cr at the box office on Day 4, its lowest since the movie hit theatres on December 20. Marco Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3 grosses in India were tracked at Rs 4.3Cr, Rs 4.65Cr, and Rs 5.2Cr, according to Sacnilk.

The movie, which had grossed close to Rs 32 Cr worldwide by Sunday, was expected to breach the Rs 40 Cr barrier on its fourth day. While the makers are yet to let out the official worldwide earnings, considering the India box office collection, the movie might have just fallen short. With Barroz now set to hit theatres on December 25, Day 5 will be crucial for Marco in terms of how soon it can break into the Rs 50 Cr club.
The movie, which also has Siddique, Kabir Singh Duhan, and Jagadeesh in pivotal roles, also saw a drop in collection in the rest of the Indian market. Overall occupancy in Bengaluru, which had the movie playing in over 100 theatres, fell from 68.75% to 35.50%. Given that Varun Dhawan’s Baby John will also hit big screens on Christmas day, there could be a further drop, depending on the response to the film.
The next few days will be interesting for Unni Mukundan’s film, especially in terms of how it fares with Barroz, which incidentally targets a totally different section of the audience. The Mohanlal directorial is primarily aimed at children, while Marco is strictly for adults due to its violent content.
