“Why set limits?” - This is what Marco star and co-producer Unni Mukundan had replied to the media, when they asked if the A-rated violent action-thriller would gross over Rs 100 crore at the box office. Based on the Day 2 box office collection of the film, as per its makers, the film is well on track to break the Rs 100 crore barrier and do more as well.
According to the Day 2 worldwide box office collection, let out by the makers, the film has already grossed Rs 21 crore and is set for a massive weekend, which could see the Haneef Adeni movie rake in as much as Rs 35 crore from its three-day run that began with Rs 10 crore on its opening day.
As per Indian industry trackers Sacnilk, the film grossed Rs 4.65 crore on Day 2 in domestic collections, with the Malayalam version bringing in Rs 4.63Cr and Hindi fetching and additional Rs 20 lakh. This took the overall tally to Rs 8.95Cr in two days. Both territories saw an increase from Day 1 and the makers would be hoping that the trend continues for another week.
Whether Marco crosses Rs 100 crore needs to be seen, considering its genre and a niche target audience for the movie, which is rated A and intended solely for audiences who would prefer to watch brutal action films. Some of the sequences in the film, which has Unni Mukundan in the titular role along with Siddique, Jagadish, Kabir Duhan Singh and Abhimanyu Shammi Thilakan, would be too much for the faint-hearted – considering it involves killing of children as well as dismemberment.

The film has already been hailed as one of the most brutal movies to come out from Malayalam film industry. Considering films like Prashanth Neel’s KGF duology, Salaar as well as Raghav Juyal’s Kill have fetched good box office numbers across languages, Marco does have the potential to go big. It’s only competition in Malayalam could be Aashiq Abu’s Rifle Club till Christmas. Barroz and Baby John are the other much-awaited films set to hit theatres in India on December 25.
Marco's success could lead to more such ventures from Malayalam cinema, with Haneef already reportedly set to team up with Unni for another action film next.
