Mohanlal’s debut directorial Barroz: The Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure will have a host of familiar faces from Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham reuniting with the superstar. The 3D children’s fantasy, which is currently being shot, has a host of foreign artistes as part of the cast including Marakkar’s Jay J Jakkrit.

The Thai actor played Chinali, the sidekick of Mohanlal’s character Kunjali Marakkar IV in Priyadarshan’s magnum opus. Recently, a video of Jay practising stunts at the sets of Barroz found its way online, confirming the actor’s presence in the big budget movie, which marks Mohanlal’s directorial debut.

Mohanlal plays Barroz who has been guarding a treasure for 400 years to be handed over to the true heir of Vasco Da Gama. The story revolves around the relationship between Barroz and a young girl named Isabella. The movie is based on the script by Jijo Punnose, who had helmed India’s first 3D film, My Dear Kuttichathan.

Apart from Mohanlal, the movie also has Minnal Murali actor Guru Somasundaram as part of the cast. Paz Vega and Rafael Amargo were initially confirmed to be part of the movie before the pandemic. However, it’s not clear whether the two are still part of the movie, which has been delayed multiple times due to the COVID-19 situation in the country posing visa hurdles for international actors.

Santosh Sivan is cranking the camera for the 3D movie, which has music composed by prodigy Lydian Nadhaswaram. Prithviraj Sukumaran had initially shot a few portions of the movie earlier this year. But with the movie being delayed due to the second COVID-19 lockdown, the actor had to pull out due to scheduling commitments.

The team of Marakkar too had to abandon all the portions shot prior to the second lockdown and begin again. Mohanlal, meanwhile, is set for his first theatrical release this year, Aaraattu, which is a ‘mass’ entertainer directed by B Unnikrishnan.
