It’s been a long wait for Mohanlal fans who were anxiously waiting to catch Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham in theatres. Amid much hullaballoo and the team shuttling between OTTs and theatres, the film’s producer Antony Perumbavoor finally announced on November 11 that the Priyadarshan directorial will hit theatres.
The film has a huge star cast featuring Mohanlal, Prabhu, Manju Warrier, Suniel Shetty, Siddique, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Ashok Selvan, Pranav Mohanlal, Keerthy Suresh and Arjun Sarja. It’s also the most expensive Malayalam film made on a budget of Rs 90 Cr.
What is Marakkar’s story?
The movie, which is set mostly in the late 1500s and early 1600, revolves around the adventures of Zamorin naval chief Kunjali Marakkar as he and his crew go against the Portuguese troops. Priyadarshan had earlier said that the movie’s plot is based on a story he had learnt when he was in Class 3. The team had done further research that revealed that Kunjali Marakkar was revered by the Arabs and despised by the Europeans in their history as he had often waged war with them at sea and won.
When is Marakkar releasing?
Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham will release in theatres across the world on December 2 as announced by the makers. According to the Kerala Film Chamber, a movie that releases in theatres can be streamed on OTTs after 41 days. This would mean that Marakkar could drop on OTTs in January 2022 around Republic Day. Amazon Prime Video is reportedly the front-runner to snap up Marakkar’s digital rights.
