ZEE5 is currently streaming Manorathangal, which stars well-known south Indian actors including Mohanlal, Fahadh Faasil, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Mammootty, and Kamal Haasan. Its writer, MT Vasudevan Nair, discussed the main difficulty in creating this Malayalam anthology web series in an interview. During the filming of Manorathangal, he noted that the makers had to consider the changes that had occurred to the original locations of the stories.
The author noted that circumstances have changed over time and that the majority of the settings in his stories no longer exist. "My daughter informed me that I had written a story with Bombay as its setting that I had become familiar with during my days spent there. However, things have changed, therefore, we must look for alternatives or other ways to make one," he remarked. MT continued, saying that Kerala is in a similar situation and that the idea of a village has evolved from what it was in his novels.
"Changes are also happening in the film industry," he said. The author said, "Today, themes that were not explored in Malayalam cinema are being used, and unexplored expression is being employed to make films."
He stressed that audience preferences are not the same because people are increasingly turning away from attending theatrical releases in favour of alternative media. Based on his talks with friends and people from different backgrounds, MT Vasudevan Nair claims that audiences are more receptive to small screen media. "I fully understand these changes and my works are also somehow connected or based on such shifts," he stated.
The project is accessible in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam on the streaming platform. Subscribers of OTTplay Premium will also be able to see the web series. Based on the popular writings of M T Vasudevan Nair, the anthology has a stellar cast that has never collaborated in Malayalam cinematic history. The project was much awaited since it promises to recreate the enchantment of the well-known author and stars nine highly skilled directors and numerous remarkable actors. Aswathy Nair, the writer's daughter, directed Vilpana, a segment that included Madhoo and Asif Ali.
