The highly anticipated MT Vasudevan Nair anthology series, which has been titled Manorathangal, is gearing up for its grand release on Zee5. The much-awaited series consists of 9 segments, based on the Jnanpith Award-winning writer’s 9 popular short stories. Mammootty, Mohanlal, Fahadh Faasil, Biju Menon, Asif Ali, and others headline the different segments in the series, directed by some of the most celebrated filmmakers. As you might have guessed, Olavum Theeravum was already adapted into a feature film in 1970, with veteran actor Madhu playing the central character Baputty. Now, after a long gap of over 54 years, Priyadarshan is bringing a new version of the iconic short story back, in the form of one of the segments in the Manorathangal anthology. Mohanlal is playing the role of Baputty in the segment, which is reportedly being made in a black-and-white format. Durga Krishna appears as Baputty’s lady love Nabeesa, the character played by Usha Nandini in the original.
