After back-to-back collaborations with Mohanlal, director B Unnikrishnan will be teaming up with Mammootty after a gap of 12 years for an upcoming big budget entertainer. The shoot of the movie is expected to begin from June this year, according to reports.
The movie, which marks the duo’s first collaboration after Pramani in 2010, will also have a stellar cast featuring Manju Warrier and Biju Menon, as per rumours. Manju had collaborated with Mammootty for the first time in her career last year for The Priest, which was also co-produced by B Unnikrishnan. The duo, however, shared screen space for only one scene in the film. The lady superstar was also part of Unnikrisnan’s Mohanlal-starrer Villain. The makers, however, are yet to officially confirm the casting.
The upcoming movie is also scripted by Udaykrishna, who had worked with the filmmaker for Mohanlal’s most-recent theatrical release Aaraattu. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Unnikrishnan told us, “I am in discussions with Mammukka. Even though it’s a mass movie, it will have fun elements and will also tell a pertinent subject. It will be a blast.” It’s also rumoured that the movie will have locations outside Kerala too.
Meanwhile, Mammootty has had a packed schedule since resuming shoot after the lockdowns last year. He had completed filming for Bheeshma Parvam, Ratheena’s Puzhu and shot for Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam. He had also travelled to Europe to film a few portions of his Telugu action-thriller Agent, which has Akhil Akkineni in the lead, and in March had completed shooting for the Surender Reddy directorial in Hyderabad.
He is currently shooting for Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha director Nissam Basheer’s untitled thriller. The film, which also has Sharafudheen, Grace Antony, Bindu Panicker and Jagadish Kumar, is also produced by Mammootty.
The megastar’s next release will be CBI 5: The Brain, which is set to hit theatres on May 1. Meanwhile, Puzhu, which marks Mammootty’s OTT debut, is expected to release on Sony LIV on May 13.
