Madhu Wariar’s directorial debut will mark the first big direct-to-OTT release in March

It’s raining OTT releases in Malayalam this March. While Super Sharanya and Kunjeldho will begin streaming from this month, it’s the direct-to-OTT releases of Manju Warrier and Biju Menon’s Lalitham Sundaram and Dulquer Salmaan’s Salute that have got the fans waiting with bated breath now.
Manju, who has acted and produced her brother and actor Madhu Wariar’s directorial debut, had last week confirmed that Lalitham Sundaram is heading for a straight to OTT release on Disney+ Hostar. The feel-good, family entertainer, which also has Biju Menon, Anu Mohan, Saiju Kurup and Deepti Sati, had wrapped up its shoot last year and intermittent lockdowns in Kerala had prompted the makers to opt for an OTT release instead of a theatrical one as initially planned.
We now hear that the movie will drop on Disney+ Hotstar on March 18. The streaming platform is yet to confirm the official release date. With the movie being a family entertainer, it’s safe to say that Lalitham Sundaram will bring in a lot of views just like Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Bro Daddy in January.
Madhu had earlier told us that the film will have all ingredients that family audience would enjoy. “It’s a simple, light-hearted entertainer that will make for a good experience while watching with the entire family,” said the director, in an earlier interview with OTTplay confirming its OTT release.
A March 18 release will mean that it will release along with Dulquer’s Salute, which is expected to drop on Sony LIV on the same date, not that this matters in the digital space. Dulquer’s movie though is also an investigative thriller, which is directed by Rosshan Andrrews and scripted by Bobby and Sanjay.
This month will see the best of Malayalam content releasing in theatres and OTTs with movies such as Kunchacko Boban’s Pada, Navya Nair’s Oruthee and Vysakh’s Night Drive set to hit cinema halls.
