After its premiere at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival last year and bagging the NETPAC Asian Select Best Film this year at the 27th Kolkata International Film Festival in late April, Abhinandan Banerjee’s Manikbabur Megh (The Cloud & the Man) is all set to be released in theatres on July 14. With Chandan Sen, Bratya Basu, and others in the cast, the film will be presented by Anirban Bhattacharya. In fact, the actor-director recorded a promotional song for the film.

The song Tomar Amar Golpo was released recently at an al fresco lounge in Kolkata. Anirban recorded the song in Mumbai. The music video is directed by the National Award-winning director and producer of the film Bauddhayan Mukherji. The song is penned by Abhinandan and composed by Subhajit Mukherjee. The entire song was shot in black and white.

The film’s theme is solitude. There is a loner in a big city who has no friends. He does not interact with anyone. But one day, everything gets dishevelled when he meets his love. But whose love? Is it the love of a human being, or the love of nature? This is Abhinandan’s debut feature film. NFDC placed the film in the section of Special Films in its Film Bazaar platform. The film was also screened at the Marchè Du Film (Cannes Film Market) in 2022.

Talking about the film, Abhinandan said, “Manikbabur Megh (The Cloud & the Man) is the journey of a socially unfit man, going back to nature- where it all began. A pursuit towards purity. This film is a cinematic journey to transcend viewers into an alternative reality where man and nature are synonymous- just like old times.”

Elaborating on it further, Abhinandan added, “Apart from death, nature had always been the greatest mentor and inspiration for me. Be it architecture, art, storytelling, or life itself... nature was always the primary rescuer in every medium that I perused. The unavoidable compass, in this infinite universe. It kept attracting me through her umpteen thresholds and surprises. Mountains, oceans, leaves, insects, the charm of rains, a drop of dew on the tip of a grass- from macro to micro... She showed her beauty in everything. And one day the unthinkable happened when a cloud gave me shelter on a hot sunny day. That very day Manikbabur Megh was born.”
