For the majority of Malayalam film enthusiasts, Manichitrathazhu is without a doubt one of their all-time favourites. In 2023, the 1993 blockbuster, directed by Fazil, celebrated 30 years since its premiere. On August 17, the popular psychological horror thriller will be shown on big screens once more.
In the history of the Malayalam cinema, the film starring Mohanlal, Shobana, and Suresh Gopi is still one of the most watched again and again. Following its huge success in Kerala, the movie was also remade into various languages, including Tamil, Kannada and Bengali, later.
Although Mohanlal's Spadikam was re-released last year, the actor's other loved film, Devadoothan, is also scheduled to return to theatres soon. On July 26, the mystery thriller will make its theatrical debut. Mohanlal, Jaya Prada, Janardhanan, Jagathy Sreekumar, Vijayalakshmi, Murali, and Vineeth Kumar are among the actors who play significant roles in it.
Devadoothan was a total commercial failure when it was released in 2001. However, viewers gave the movie overwhelmingly positive reviews following its television premiere and DVD release. After being posted on YouTube, it has also gained more recognition among youngsters.
The psychological horror thriller film that debuted in theatres in 1993, centres on Ganga, a young lady who takes on the identity of the centuries-old Tamil dancer Nagavalli. In the film, Mohanlal played Dr Sunny, who comes to Madampalli Mansion to treat Shobana, who played the lead role of Ganga, and unravel the mystery behind Nagavalli. On the other hand, Suresh Gopi played Nakulan, Ganga's loving husband.
A number of actors played supporting roles, including Innocent, KPAC Lalitha, Nedumudi Venu, Thilakan, Kuthiravattam Pappu, Vinaya Prasad, Ganesh Kumar, Sudheesh, Rudra, Kuttyedathi Vilasini, and Sridhar. The songs were written by MG Radhakrishnan, while Johnson wrote the original score. Bankrolled by the prestigious banner Swargachitra, the film released in 1993. The soundtracks of this movie are also highly regarded over the generations.
