There is no denying that Manichitrathazhu is one of the all-time favourites of most Malayalam movie buffs. Beginning on August 17, the popular psychological horror thriller will be screened on big screens once again. Nonetheless, film enthusiasts and the cast of the film attended a preview screening that the producers organised before its theatrical re-release.
The preview screening provided an opportunity for many who were not even born when the film was released thirty-one years ago to see the iconic thriller on a big screen.
Many said that seeing the movie again brought back memories of seeing some of the greatest performances by some seasoned actors. Some have noted that a small portion of the audience was mimicking the characters' dialogue and pointing out their favourite scenes in the film.
A few have also kept calling the movie the best of all time because of its outstanding performances and cast. Manichitrathazhu is certain to shatter the records for re-release collections in South India, according to a user on X. Recently, after returning to the big screen, Mohanlal’s 2001 film Devadoothan received an equally enthusiastic reception from the crowd, running successfully in theatres across the state for the past few weeks.
The movie starring Suresh Gopi, Mohanlal, and Shobana is still one of the most watched movies in Malayalam cinema history. The protagonist of the 1993 psychological horror thriller film is Ganga (Shobana), a young woman who assumes the character of the Tamil dancer Nagavalli. Mohanlal portrayed Dr Sunny in the movie, who visits Madampalli Mansion to solve the mystery surrounding Nagavalli. Suresh Gopi portrayed Ganga's spouse, Nakulan.
Thilakan, Innocent, KPAC Lalitha, Nedumudi Venu, Kuthiravattam Pappu, Vinaya Prasad, Ganesh Kumar, Sudheesh, Rudra, Kuttyedathi Vilasini, and Sridhar were among the actors who portrayed supporting roles. Supported by the esteemed banner Swargachitra, the film was released in 1993 and garnered positive reviews from viewers.
