Director Ajay Bhupathi, who shot to fame with RX 100, went onto make another big budget action romance Mahasamudram a couple of years ago. He’s back in action with a thriller titled Mangalavaaram, headlined by Payal Rajput. Swathi Reddy Gunupati, Suresh Varma M are bankrolling the film under Mudhra Media Works and A Creative Works.
The first single from Mangalavaaram, Ganagana Mogalira, was launched today. Bhaskarabhatla Ravikumar has written the lyrics for the number sung by V M Mahalingam. Ajaneesh Loknath, who scored a hit with Virupaksha in Telugu this year, is the composer of the album. The song unfolds amidst a ‘jathara’ in a village that’s witnessing a series of eerie events.
‘Amma Danguru Danguru Danguruma... Amma Ammoru Danguru Danguruma.. Haarathanduko... Mammu Anduko... Poojalanduko,’ the electrifying number takes off with superb orchestration and a moving rendition. The song offers a few hints of the film’s backdrop, where the lyrics mention that the village is cursed, experiencing several deaths every Tuesday and there’s no one stopping it.
What connects the mythical setting to the murders in the village? Bhaskarabhatla’s crisp lyrics sustain the tense mood of the number with great finesse - sample lines like ‘Maranam Tappadika Prathi Mangalaram..Chematalu Puttisthadi Okko Chavu Melam..Veta Modalayyindhira Ivvalsinde Pranam..’ The sharp, vibrant cinematography complements the song choreographed by Bhanu.
The filmmaker shares that the song introduces viewers to the story of Mangalavaaram and the rooted storytelling is one of its primary USPs. Nandita Swetha, Divya Pillai, Azmal, Ravindra Vijay, Krishna Chaitanya, Ajay Ghosh, Shravan Reddy, Srithej play other prominent roles in the thriller. Sivendra Dasaradhi is the cinematographer of the same.
