Ajay Bhupathi, a protege of Ram Gopal Varma, had a stellar directorial debut in the form of the surprise hit RX 100, and later went onto direct the lavishly mounted action drama Maha Samudram featuring a bevvy of stars. He’s back in the reckoning with a mystical thriller Mangalavaaram, where he reunites with his RX100 co-star Payal Rajput. The film is gearing up for a release this November.

While the team confirmed a November release, a few weeks ago, the release date was formally announced today. “Excited to show y'all a story that'll twist your heart like never before. #Mangalavaaram #Mangalavaar #Chevvaikizhamai #Chovvazhcha. Releasing Worldwide in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada on November 17th. An @AJANEESHB Musical,” the director wrote.

With October already packed with a flurry of releases, the mid-November slot looks apt for Mangalavaaram to make a mark among audiences. Nandita Swetha, Shritej, Chaitanya Krishna, Ajay Ghosh and Laxman play other key roles in the film that’ll release in five languages on the whole. The film is bankrolled by Swathi Reddy Gunupati and Suresh Varma under Mudra Media Works.

The filmmaker, while discussing the project, called Mangalavaaram a rustic action thriller in a rural setting with intriguing characters where the lines between good and evil are blurred. The character-driven film is packed with questions and the answers aren’t so easily found, he asserts and opines it’s a perfect big-screen experience. Payal Rajput’s character will have many surprises to offer, he adds.

The producers assure a paisa-vasool experience in theatres, hail it’s a never-seen-before attempt with technical finesse. Mangalavaaram was shot for for 99 days, over 5o of them being night shoots. Ajaneesh B Loknath, best known for Kantara and Virupaksha, is the composer. Award-winning sound designer MR Raja Krishnan is also part of the crew. The trailer will be launched shortly.
