Mammootty’s Rorschach has been creating quite a buzz since its theatrical release on October 7. The positive response from the audience as well as the critics have ensured that the movie had a great weekend at the box office, with it raking in revenue of over Rs 7 Cr in its first three days. But the megastar apparently knew it would create waves in the box office much before its release.
In a recent social media post, Mammootty’s PRO Robert Kuriakose had said that the film’s makers were initially approached by Netflix with a whooping offer for a direct-to-OTT release. Rorschach, a psychological revenge thriller helmed by Nisam Basheer, was produced by Mammootty’s own banner Mammootty Kampany and distributed by Wayfarer Films, which had previously backed straight OTT releases such as Dulquer Salmaan’s Salute and Jacob Gregory’s Maniyarayile Ashokan.
“I was stunned by what Netflix offered for Rorschach,” wrote Robert, adding that he had told Mammootty it was a great deal and that they should take it. However, the megastar, who had already made his OTT debut earlier this year with Sony LIV’s Puzhu, told him that the film “will be on another level” when it releases in theatres. “It will create waves at the box office,” Mammootty had told Robert, who explained that the actor’s prediction was on the money.
Rorschach has Mammootty essaying the role of an NRI named Luke Antony, who barges into a police station in a village, saying that his pregnant wife is missing. His life then intertwines with that of another family, but is it deliberate or just coincidental?
The movie, which is written by Samir Abdul, also has Bindu Panicker, Sharafudheen, Kottayam Nazir, Grace Antony, Jagadeesh and Sanju Sivram in pivotal roles with a cameo from Asif Ali. The movie has won praise for its brilliant making as well as performances. Cinematographer Nimish Ravi and composer Midhun Mukundan are also part of its technical crew.
