Mammootty’s OTT debut film Puzhu will be available to audiences in multiple languages when it premieres on Sony LIV in May. The streaming platform recently released a poster of the film sharing the update on the thriller, helmed by debutant Ratheena.

The movie, which also has Parvathy Thiruvothu in the lead, is touted to be a crime and family drama revolving around a father and son, who have trust issues. The story showcases their uneasy dynamics while also exploring a crime angle.

Puzhu, which had wrapped up shooting last year, is also co-produced by Dulquer Salmaan, who also made his OTT debut in March with Sony LIV release Salute. Like Dulquer’s investigative thriller, Puzhu will also be available to watch in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. The movie is expected to hit the platform on May 13. This, however, is yet to be officially announced.

The film will have Mammootty play a role with negative shades; something the megastar hasn’t done in a while. Its platform of release could also be one of the reasons the actor decided to be part of the movie.

Dulquer, in an earlier interview with OTTplay, said, “Not everything we do will be for the wide audience. As actors, both of us want to experiment, we want to do different roles and be part of all kinds of cinema. I think he (Mammootty) understood that with Puzhu.”

Meanwhile, Mammootty’s first release next month will be CBI 5: The Brain, which will hit theatres worldwide on May 1. The investigative thriller will mark the fifth instalment in the iconic CBI Sethurama Iyer franchise. This time that sleuth will be investigating a case known as Basket Killings. The upcoming film also has Soubin Shahir, Jagathy Sreekumar, Mukesh, Dileesh Pothan, Saikumar, Anoop Menon, Asha Sharath and Renji Panicker as part of its ensemble cast.
