Mammootty's investigation thriller Kannur Squad is one of the anticipated releases this year. The debut movie of cinematographer Roby Varghese Raj features Mammootty in a police role. According to the latest updates the film is slated to hit theatres on October 5 with its teaser expected to be out in August. There are also speculations that the teaser will be attached to Dulquer Salmaan's big-budget actioner, King of Kotha, which is to be released in August.
About the movie and crew
According to reports, Mammootty plays a police officer leading a team trained to track criminals. Along with the veteran actor, the movie also features Shabareesh Varma, Azeez Nedumangad, Deepak Parambol, and Rony David. Rony also co-scripted the cop drama along with Muhammed Shafi. Bankrolled by Mammootty Kampany, Kannur Squad was shot in Kerala and Maharashtra. Muhammed Rahil handles the cinematography while Praveen Prabhakar, known for his works in Iyobinte Pusthakam and Bangalore Days, does the editing. Sushin Shyam, the popular composer, and a recent trendsetter, handles the music department.

During the shoot of Kannur Squad, Mammootty visited his alma mater, Maharajas College , and shared an emotional video of his visit. He was seen going through his photos in the college library, reminiscing about his college days. The actor was active in art and cultural activities and was also the leader of the college drama group.
Mammootty's upcoming projects
Meanwhile, the upcoming movies of the actor are Bazooka and Jeo Baby's Kaathal: The Core. Bazooka is a game thriller, which is regarded as a first-of-a-kind in Malayalam cinema. The film has Neeta Pillai, Babu Antony, and Sumit Naval playing pivotal roles. The movie mounted on a large scale also has director Gautham Vasudev Menon doing a character.
Mammootty will also essay a villain character in Bhoothakaalam director, Rahul Sadasivan's horror thriller. The yet-to-be-titled project features Arjun Ashokan in the lead role.
