It’s not just young scriptwriters and directors who are vying to work with Mammootty, but even actors. The megastar’s first film of 2023 will have him team with two brothers from the film industry who have made a name for themselves as a cinematographer and an actor, but will be trying their hand at direction and scriptwriting.
The megastar will begin the year by working on cameraman-turned-director Roby Varghese Raj’s directorial debut, which is touted to be an investigative thriller. The movie will have him essay the role of a cop again, and will also be produced by Mammootty Kampany.
The film will be co-scripted by Roby’s brother and actor Dr Rony David Raj, who had shared screen space with Mammootty in movies such as Daddy Cool, Best Actor, The Great Father and Unda. Rony has scripted the movie along with Muhammed Shafi. Muhammed Rahil will be cranking the camera for the movie, which had gone on floors in Pala on Tuesday.
Mammootty will be joining the sets of the film on January 1. Apart from the megastar, the film also has Dr Rony, Deepak Parambol, Vijayaraghavan, Shabareesh Varma and Azees Nedumangad in pivotal roles.
Meanwhile, Mammootty’s next release is expected to be Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, which is helmed by Lijo Jose Pellissery. The film, which premiered at this year’s IFFK, had won the Audience Poll award for Best Film and received rave reviews from those who watched it.
The actor will also be seen essaying a police officer in B Unnikrishnan’s Christopher, which is scripted by Udaykrishna. Amala Paul, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sneha, Shine Tom Chacko, Jinu Joseph and Vinay Rai star in the investigative thriller, which is set to release in theatres in January 2023. The megastar has also wrapped up shooting for Jeo Baby’s Kaathal: The Core, which is also produced by Mammootty Kampany and has Jyothika as the female lead.
